Painting a Tea Cup

£50.00

Intermediate Class

3 hours and a 15 minute break

In this intermediate art class we will use acrylic paint to create a tea cup. Tea is a 5,000 year old delicate leaf, that sparked wars and revolutions. It is one of the only hot drinks you can drink 17 hours of the day. In this intermediate art class we will explain the history of tea and how the designs of teacups changed over time. Designs were greatly influenced by Chinese and Japanese exotic cups. The first porcelain to arrive from china in Britain were handleless which meant the lady would have to use her pinky to balance the cup in her hand. In the Victorian era, it was fashionable to grow a mustache and apply wax to shape it. Designers came to the rescue with the invention of the mustache cup to protect the wax dripping into a cup of tea.
