There are few figures in modern art so legendary, polarising and enigmatic as Jackson Pollock. His bold, emotional and seemingly chaotic style has intrigued art fans since its inception through to the modern day. Some people love him, some people hate him. We love him. As part of the Abstract Expressionist movement that took over the New York art scene of the 1940’s and whose influence can still be felt in the works of many contemporary artists today, Pollock described his paintings as “energy and motion made visible” and as “memories arrested in space.” His work were driven by emotion and made to move like music.

Now you can learn the techniques and tricks Pollock used to create his masterpieces and, with our step-by-step instructions and supportive tutors, you can use them to make masterpieces of your own.

In this class, we will look at painting pouring, flicking, drizzling and scattering, to name just a few. Our instructor will help you to discover the intuitive and emotional process of Abstract Expression, so you too can learn how to create art that speaks to you.

What We Offer

This is a 90 minute class led by one of our in-house artists who specialises in Abstract Art and Abstract Expressionism. After a quick introduction into Jackson Pollock and his works, the artist will demo how Pollock would create his paintings through:

• Setting a base layer
• Laying down some early brush strokes
• Then layering several colours through pouring, dripping and flicking paints

After that, it will be your turn to have a go at one of the most fun ways of painting around. The Artist will be on hand to guide you through the process with any questions or queries you may have, and to provide tips on how to be led by your intuition when creating your artworks. We will provide canvases, brushes and all the paints you could need, and you will walk away with your very own take on a Pollock painting.
